I am the Queen of Procrastination. You thought you were, didn't you? Nope, I've got this one all sewn up! And on top of my propensity to procrastinate, I also have the BEST of intentions. I mentally think about all the things I want to be doing, accomplishing, handling, managing, you name it. I think to myself "Tomorrow, that's when I'm going to start X." I think of all the things I need to do in order to achieve or accomplish "X". I promise myself that I *will* do it this time.
It's almost tomorrow again. Instead of "mentally" preparing, I decided that I needed to write some things out. Put it "out there" for any and all to see. Give myself an accountability push.
The list of X's is insanely long. Way too long to be realistic. And as an obsessive type of person, I can make the most basic and boring thing into the mother of all big deals.
That's one of the things I *do not* want to do right now.
Without further adieu, here's what I hope to accomplish this week. I'll post at week's end and let you know how I do. Maybe you would like to make a list of your own? Let me know if you do!
- Get up early Monday through Friday so that I have time to accomplish some house or horse chore (or two) to start my day off on the right foot. Example: tomorrow get up between 5:00 and 5:30 so I can get my bedroom picked up and the sheets changed on our bed. Alternate between doing household chores and horse chores each day.
- In order to get up early, I need to get *to bed* earlier. No later than 10pm seems like a good place to start. And by 10pm, I mean IN BED not just getting ready to GO to bed at 10pm. My nightly routine isn't a big deal, but it does take a few minutes.
- Prep a menu and grocery list so that we can start doing the main grocery shopping on Friday nights. This will help us avoid the "there's nothing here to eat...let's go grab xyz for lunch/dinner" on the weekends. Now that Tom's back to work, it's been really easy to slide back into those bad habits.
- Set one or two specific goals for the week so those things on the "mental checklist" can go away! This week? Get Missy's photos printed and her registration paperwork sent off!
That's it. Not too difficult, I believe, but it will take some planning and some effort to make these changes and do them long enough so that they become the norm.
And how about something to help us with our "to do" lists? In searching for some images to use on today's post, I found this:
